Payroll Specialist (On-Site | Temp-to-Hire)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to join our client's team in McClellan, CA. This is a temp-to-hire opportunity for a payroll professional who can manage end-to-end payroll processing with a high level of accuracy and confidentiality. The ideal candidate has at least three years of payroll experience, with construction industry exposure strongly preferred. This position is fully on-site.

Key Responsibilities

• Process full-cycle payroll on a regular schedule, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
• Review, verify, and enter employee timecards, including overtime, job costing, and multiple pay rates
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations
• Calculate and process payroll deductions, garnishments, benefits, and taxes
• Prepare and submit payroll tax filings and reports (weekly, monthly, quarterly, and year-end)
• Reconcile payroll registers, payroll tax reports, and general ledger postings
• Maintain accurate payroll records and employee data, ensuring confidentiality at all times
• Respond to employee payroll questions and resolve discrepancies promptly
• Coordinate with HR and accounting regarding new hires, terminations, wage changes, and benefits updates
• Support audits and provide payroll documentation as requested
• Assist with workers' compensation reporting and union reporting, if applicable
• Contribute to process improvements and ensure adherence to internal controls
• Perform other payroll and administrative duties as assigned

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (required)
• Minimum of 3 years of hands-on payroll processing experience (required)
• Payroll experience in a construction environment is strongly preferred, including familiarity with job costing, prevailing wage, and multi-rate pay structures
• Solid knowledge of payroll laws, tax regulations, and compliance requirements
• Experience working with payroll systems and timekeeping software
• Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with internal teams
• Reliable and able to work 100% on-site in McClellan, CA
